Shadow Shot Sunday # 49

People may perceive that we Fudges live among wild and dangerous creatures , but in fact our home is situated in a normal Brisbane suburb, 35 minutes from the centre of the city. We happen to live next to a large park, which accounts for the super-abundance of all creatures great and small.

Mind you, ever since the snake incident, my view of suburbia has taken on a new dimension and I am ever vigilant in case a tiger has escaped from the zoo - I know it would find me. It makes you look at the back yard with new eyes. Take this week for instance. There staring in through the kitchen window was this large brown grasshopper.

He appeared very keen to come in for a visit, but I gently persuaded him that outdoors was much healthier for him. He seemed happy enough with the verdict and even cast a nice shadow for me.

Oh dear, I hope he wasn't trying to escape from a bird and I sent him to his peril... Nah.

And now it's time to go to Hey Harriet's blog for some really great shadow shots.

Oh, how lucky he co-operated to give you a perfect shadow. No wild animals here for sure, grasshoppers are plenty though I've yet to take a SSS..Happy Sunday :P

Luv his gigantic shadow. Reminds me of a fable by Aesop, "The Wolf and His Shadow." In the story, a wolf gets eaten by a lion because he (the wolf), mistakenly thinks he is bigger than the lion-- just because his shadow is. I hope the grasshopper didn't have the same fate!

We had one of those outside our 8th floor apartment door. I'm not sure if it was a locust or a grasshopper. My husband and I were looking at it when it suddenly jumped at us and landed on him. I ran inside!

That park sounds like a lovely place to live by!

What great pictures. Isn't it fun, when we pay attention to everything. Last year, I was in the front yard talking to a cricket..then I looked around to make sure no one was watching me..
Happy SSS.

They're just fascinating! I love to look at their joints. You can see where engineers get some of their ideas.

Wow! this is just a cutie!

I guess, this lil creature knows what you been up to, so she/he posed for you for a perfect shot!

That's one heckuva grasshopper. I thought the shot of him "checking himself out in the mirror" was funny. Nice shadow shot too!

Watch out for those tigers!

That's so funny! He makes a good shadow. I sometimes find caterpillars indoors-I think they get stuck to the cats. I always worry about the same thing and also that I will put them back on the wrong plant and they will die anyway.
