The good, the bad, and the ugly

Something good happened yesterday.

A parcel arrived.

Out tumbled these delicious rolls of rick rack braid.

I use it here ...

... and here.

So that was the good.

This is the bad.  Noooooo ... the overlocker nightmare - re-threading time.  You have to be an overlocker user to understand the pain.  Crying doesn't help.  I know.  I've tried.  The slick sales folk try to convince you that the new overlockers are a breeze to thread. Don't believe them.

And finally the ugly.  The knot.  The solution to the end of reel problem is to take a deep breath, cut the umbilical cord, tie it to the new reel and gingerly pull it through the labyrinth with the blind faith that it will eventually come through unscathed.  With great relief I exhaled and un-gritted my teeth.  It worked, so sometimes ugly can be good, and that's where we started.

Oh like my dream for the endless bobbin . . . an overlocker that never ever runs out of thread & changes colour too when you click you fingers or wiggle your nose. I do the knot trick, you're right, crying does not help. I keep a video in my studio (video/ DVD player) so i can watch the Overlocker Video from when i purchased it, when it snaps a thread (along with a chunk of my patience). Love Posie

I hear your pain! A friend and I used to swap overlockers so we didn't have to change colours. It just meant everything had to be overlocked in black or white! End of reel rethreading - there is really no way to avoid that job! Glad it worked.

This happened to me too...I've bought the thread but haven't been bothered to rethread it yet. I've got a secret weapon though that may interest you....I use a pair of entomology tweezers, their long and super pointy and make it quite breezy.

Love the ric rac!!
