Holiday Shadows

Children in Australia go back to school in the next few days after their long Christmas break, so as far as I am concerned, until then it's still holiday time.  I must confess that when I took my camera along yesterday on a special outing, it was overcast and as a result there were no shadows to be found.

However, I had taken this image earlier in the month while on holidays and with Shadow Shot Sunday upon us again so soon, it's my offering for this week.

There were odd things going on in Sydney during our recent visit, not the least of which was this:

Our daughter took us to the Art Gallery of New South Wales to view a particular exhibition we were all keen to see.  Approaching the Gallery we thought it was undergoing major alterations, but on venturing up the stairs and taking a peek inside , this is what we discovered:

A similar temporary structure on the opposite side of the Gallery entrance was just as fascinating ...

The story behind these incredible rooms can be found here.  It was a wonderful experience - if a little strange - to see equestrian statues I had known all my life in a new light.  You may not be able to teach old dogs new tricks, but obviously old horses don't seem to mind at all!

The reflections and shadows really distort the view - it seems to me that the fish are about to leap out. Illusory this view is...

The scaffolding is temporaru, but the shadows look as if they are going to stay around for a while...

The museum shows massive figures. The man looks to be holding a delicate feather, the horseman sits upright on the massive steed, the opposite look of the feather. Equine art is wonderful...

Great shadow shot. Still trying to figure out what that first structure is though!

The first structure can be seen in its original form here:

It's amazing how when something is given a different environment just how different and intriguing it becomes! That is one thing I used to love about the Art Gallery in NSW! They were very good at doing that! Great photos!

Love the Koi fish! I wish I could visit those odd rooms. It looks like the horse is standing on a bed? I don't really mind that it's standing on a bed or the fact the I have no idea why it's standing on a bed. I would just be very happy to see it up close standing on a bed. Because it's not something one sees everyday :)

Re you comment about lunch being moved to 10.30 - That is silly! Sillier than a horse standing on a bed!

Now if that horse isn't standing on a bed, the only silly looking thing around here will be me!

That's ok. I can live with that :)

Oh, what a coincidence! I was at the Ala Moana Shopping Center today taking images much like these-the ones with the coi (aka carp) in the pond.
Beautiful.

Those statues are really fascinating. That's great you were able to take photos in sthe museum.

Dumb question: is that a painting of those fish? It's cool whatever it is.

Thanks for the info on Jeffrey Smart. I'll have to check him out online later today. Got to get ready for church.

Thanks for stopping by ~

That is different to be sure..I do love the koi too. The school children here (NY) went back to school the day after News Years Day so you do have a long holiday. Thank you for visiting my SS, I appreciate it...Michelle

I love that goldfish photo. You could sell that as fine art, it's beautiful. Hope you have a great week and you don't melt too much. Can you believe my middle child is wearing his winter pajamas? I'm too exhausted to care.
