Brisbane's brutal winter

Picture this. Winter... Brisbane... waaarm ... perfect. It was one of those brilliant days which come around every August and you are foolishly led to believe that winter is all but over. These days are too good to waste.

The family came for lunch to celebrate our son's birthday and after copious amounts of chocolate birthday cake ...

Are you sure this stuff's OK?

Oooo yeah!

... it was time to work off some energy in the back yard.

I even remembered Hey Harriet's Shadow Shot Sunday, and it was only when we were heading back indoors that the children pointed to some very busy ants around the rim of a pot plant. I had watered the plant earlier in the day and I guess they thought the floods were returning. They were throwing lovely shadows, so I just aimed, shot, and hoped for the best.

On days like this, you wouldn't live anywhere else for quids.

I think all you Australians kid on about having winter - it always looks like summer there to me ;)
Great shadows and chocolate faces.

Your winter is certainly warmer than it is here in Victoria! Love these happy shots! And the ants casting a shadow are great!

Perfect shots for a great winter day. That's awesome. Winter day and kids wearing sleeveless? Ahh... am just jealous.

Winter up north is killing us. -25 below zero? Fun or?

Yeah I'm wondering what happened to our winter. Has it not yet arrived? I remember a couple of cold days early on but then nothing. Not that I'm complaining! Even the usual August winds haven't hit yet! Weird! Love the happy shots of the kids having fun. And ant shadows! How super!

PS - Looking at your first pic I'm wondering if your lawnmower is broken ;D

Oh, you noticed the long grass Tracy. Yes, in fact the mower was broken and away in hospital for weeks, and then they gave us an unrepaired mower instead of our fixed one, and it had to go back. But in fairness, surely you noticed that SOME of the grass has been mown!

Looks like a glorious day. I love your ant shadows. My kids are so fascinated by creatures with lots of legs or worse, slimy creatures with no legs.

Oh I know. It sure is hard to take isn't it!! We just farewelled the last of our Melbournian visitors today, and they weren't much looking forward to going back to the 12 degree grey days. We tried not to look too smug :P
