We bought it when our children were quite young and, up to this Christmas, they and in turn their children have fought over the privilege of winding it up. OK, so Santa came off the worse for wear a year or two back when there was a slight altercation between a couple of toddlers over whose turn it was to wind it up, but what's a glued on arm among friends?
Last week when someone who shall remain nameless was putting it away for the year, he let it slip from his (oops - that's a giveaway!) hands and it fell helplessly to its demise.
I took this shot to break the news to the grandchildren, and when I looked at the image up on the computer screen, I was amazed to see the shadow of the tree against the power point, as if saying, "Oh No!!"
Hop over to Hey Harriet's Shadow Shot Sunday and take a look at some truly wonderful shadow shots.

Oh dear...that's a tragic picture. Except for the shadow. That's the happy bit! Hope the grandkids will not be too traumatised by the news. Bad bad butter-fingered clumsy breaker of sweet and treasured Christmas gifts! It could be fixed...maybe...with a lot of glue? I'm wondering how on earth the culprit manages to sleep at night!
Speaking of sleep I better now get some. I usually schedule the SSS posts but have been having battles with Mr Linky. Finally won! The post is now published and I've popped your link in because I have superpowers & I knew you had already posted a shadow shot ;D
Uh oh. A sad, sad story. But these things happen. I'm sure there are many happy memories surrounding the music box anyway. And the shadow is there in the photo, standing tall.
Love your story behind the photo! (And still laughing at Tracy's helpful comment!)
That little wind up treasure has seen and given many happy moments! Perhaps a lot of glue is worth a try? Or is the shadow on the powerpoint a sign to "Beam me up Scottie?"
What a cute little shadow pic, amidst the tragedy ;-(
I'm afraid we had a "Beam me up Scottie" moment. Vale musical tree of so many Christmas seasons.
The "oh no" in the shadow is indeed funny. And did you call it the power point? I love this connection to world!! Here in Nebraska USA it's called an outlet and the openings are oriented vertically.
So sorry to hear its broken as it's such a pretty thing..well, at least it contributed to a shadow ;p Have a great Sunday :D
The comment under my last comment wasn't removed because it was offensive - somehow I duplicated my own comment - what a klutz!
Firstly thank you for your kind comments on my blog. I wasn't sure about entering as I have seen such terrific photos on SSS. I hope to keep up the 'good work'but it is really hard seeing shadows! Sorry about your music box.
sorry about your music box, may the great memories it brought you and your family stay with you always
Maybe it was too much sun effecting his judgement...ha...send him to Iowa...nothing that a little Jack Daniels in a cup of hot coffee with a dollup of whipped cream won't cure...well, there'll be no pain anyway...cute shot!

Waaahh... a pity news to the grandkids!
A dramatic photo to share. Nice shot!
Have a happy SSS & nice week ahead.
This little wind-up musical decoration sure has a history of memories. Are you going to get another one and have a commencement ceremony?
I have to admit, I felt your pain when I looked at the cute decoration..Hope you can put it back together and it will be fine..It did give a nice shadow..but that doesn't ease the pain..
This is a sad, sad tale. At least you now have a photo to prove that the music box did once exist! And the shadow.
the shadow looks a bit like the switch is wearing a hat
Oh how sad, Mr Butterfingers may never live it down I fear.
Oh boy that will be bad news for the kids. I can see the shadow of the tree shaking its head over the bad luck that has come over its musical capability.
It's very sad about the toy breaking (glad it's HIS fault)but love the "Oh Noes!" of the power outlet.
Sorry to hear about the misfortune of your your wind-up christmas ornament. The christmas tree shadow looks very funny though. Your power point has an amazing expression ;D
Oh no! There goes my childhood...
Oops - sorry darling - I thought I told you. Now, about Santa Claus ...
oh what a sad sad tale this is...but it could be fixed i'm sure...'he' needs to find somebody to fix it...a christmas ornament mender..i'm sure there's a specialist out there somewhere...:)chrisy
that's really fantastic ... pity about the poor deaer though ...
aww! are you sure you can't glue it yet again?
I'm glad you had the opportunity for a good SS at least!
Oh dear, what a sad Christmas story! But a lovely shadow came out of it :)
So sorry to hear of your broken ornament..hopefully you can find another special piece to entertain the grandchildren..nice SS anyway! :D
